Professor Sandra Luft

The Humanities program is hosting a Symposium in honor of Professor Sandra Luft, to be held Oct. 21, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in HUM 587. Prof. Luft, who has been teaching in the Humanities program at SF State longer than anyone in the university's history, will be retiring after this fall. The Symposium will feature some of the many students Prof. Luft has taught since 1962. They will be discussing their own academic careers and achievements, careers and achievements which were stimulated by the exceptional nature of our interdisciplinary program, a very new and even controversial experiment at the time it began at State. Because of the inter-disciplinarity of the Humanities program, the students presenting at the symposium were able to teach in very diverse academic programs, and have themselves written on intellectual and cultural figures and areas as varied as philosophers such as Heidegger and Marx, Gender issues, Lesbian theater, Religious studies, Chinese Cultural Studies, and a range of issues in Theory, Aesthetics, Sociology, Political and Economic Theory, the Arts, Literature, Film.
